SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Illinois Gov. J-B Pritzker has announced three upcoming lotteries for marijuana dispensary licenses.
One lottery will be held late this month and then two more will be held in August, giving applicants a shot at being able to sell adult-use recreational cannabis.
Gov. Pritzker has also signed a new law, designed to diversify the cannabis growing industry.
“We want to make sure that they go as smoothly as possible. And, so we’ve been working every day since this bill was passed to set up the proper lottery, so we get the results we’re expecting,” Pritzker said.
Illinois is also issuing 250 craft growers licenses statewide. And, about 67% of those are going to people of color.
The new law also authorizes some community colleges in Illinois to offer a “Career in Cannabis” certificate.
