WEST PEORIA, Ill. — West Peoria took a a step forward Tuesday night in making a “bring your own marijuana” lounge a reality.
The West Peoria City Council cleared the way for “High Harbor Cannabis Event Center” at Tuesday’s meeting. A group behind the idea plans to purchase the former Sky Harbor Steak house on N. Park Rd.
In a 5-3 vote, council members approved a special use permit for the business, along with ordinance changes.
Many people at Tuesday’s meeting were in support of “High Harbor”, but not everyone was in favor.
West Peoria resident Erik Hackett told news partner 25 News that he’s excited about it.
“I mean, obviously I think that there’s plenty of opportunities to sit down and have a drink. We have no shortages of bars in the area. I think a lounge is long overdue,” Hackett said.
There’s no timetable for when “High Harbor” may open.
The business will not sell cannabis. People will have to bring their own.
