PEKIN, Ill. — An important member of the Pekin Police Department family has died.
Pekin Public Information Officer Billie Ingles said Retired K-9 Ahen passed away May 24 at the Pekin Animal Hospital.
Ahen came to the Pekin Police Department in 2012, and was quickly embraced by the Pekin community. The K-9 worked with Lt. Jones up until his retirement in 2019.
Ahen continued his civilian life with Lt. Jones and his family after retirement.
Ahen brought national attention to Pekin through the Aftermath Grant Program, becoming a bit of an internet sensation, and through numerous community events over his career as a service dog.
