PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Firefighters and Paramedics were called to a residential fire just after 2:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 900 block of W. Virginia.
First crews on the scene found black smoke coming from the front door of the home.
The residents were alerted to the fire by their two dogs. They exited the home through a bedroom window prior to the firefighters’ arrival.
Crews had the fire under control in a matter of minutes. A search of the home found no other occupants or extension of the fire.
Companies remained on the scene salvaging the residents’ personal belongings and conducting a fire investigation.
Battalion Chief Scott Strum said the home suffered heavy smoke damage.
A Peoria Fire Investigator determined the fire was unintentionally set.
No injuries were reported.
The Red Cross was called to assist the residents with temporary housing.
Damage was estimated at $20,000.
