WAYNE COUNTY, Ill. — An Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) worker was hospitalized Tuesday morning after being hit by a car just after 7:30 in Southern Illinois.
According to Illinois State Police (ISP), the employees were patching holes on Main St. in Fairfield, about three and a half hours south of Peoria.
The employee was climbing onto an end loader, according to ISP, when he was hit by someone driving a white Chevy Cruze.
The driver continued on without stopping, and the employee was considered to have minor injuries.
IDOT posted a reminder to their Twitter Tuesday afternoon, telling drivers to keep their safety in mind.
“It’s real simple: If you see any first responder or work crew making our roads safer, please slow down, move over, and give them distance,” the tweet said. “We all want to get home alive.”
ISP are still looking for the driver of the Cruze who injured the worker.
