SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker Wednesday joined representatives from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) to announce $20.7 billion to be used to improve Illinois’ roads and bridges.
The construction projects will last over the next six years and will improve 2,779 miles of road and 7.9 million square feet of bridge deck.
The release of the more than $20 billion is made possible by Rebuild Illinois, a bipartisan capital plan.
“Rebuild Illinois is about investing for the future — supporting this generation and the next, make sure we have good jobs and the roads to get there,” said Pritzker.
Funds released through Rebuild Illinois in the last two years have been used to improve more than 2,700 miles of roadways and 290 bridges.
Locally, there are multiple projects planned between 2022-2027 to improve roadways and bridges.
Some projects of note include work on I-74 over the Mackinaw River in Woodford County between 2023-2027, while I-474/US 24 from I-74 will be undergoing resurfacing in 2022.
A Cedar Street Bridge project that will include bridge replacement is set to take place between 2022-2027.
Illinois 29 to the McClugage Bridge will be undergoing reconstruction for nearly three miles of roadway between 2022-2027.
