PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Firefighter/Paramedics responded Monday at 4:15 p.m. to the 1300 block of S. Greenlawn Ave. for reports of smoke in a building.
A working fire was reported by firefighters upon arrival that was found to have originated in the kitchen.
The lone occupant at the time in the home was able to get out of the house before fire crews arrived.
Crews were able to knock down the fire within three minutes of arrival.
A fire investigator was called to determine the cause and found a cracked flex line to the stove that caught on fire while the occupant was cooking.
The residents were assisted by the Red Cross, as the home is not habitable until repairs are made, according to Battalion Chief Ralph Phillips.
There were no injuries reported at the scene.
An estimated $5,000 in damage was done to the home.
