PEORIA, Ill. -At approximately 11:57 a.m. on Sunday, Peoria Police responded to the 2000 block of W. Forestglen Drive regarding a report of a domestic violence situation.
When officers arrived, firefighters were treating an unresponsive female inside of a residence.
Officers found a man in the driveway who was taken into custody without incident. The man made initial comments to police identifying himself as the suspect in the incident.
Hakob Sahakyan, 63, was taken to the Peoria Police Department for questioning.
Public Information Officer Amy Dotson said the victim suffered a serious head injury and was taken to a hospital where she remained in critical condition as of Tuesday morning.
After further investigation, Sahakyan was arrested for attempted first degree murder; aggravated domestic battery, and violation of an order of protection.
Shahakyan was taken to the Peoria County Jail after his arrest.
