PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria High School was placed on lockdown Wednesday morning due to an incident involving an unloaded gun.
The lockdown went into place at 10 a.m. Wednesday but was lifted around noon.
According to PPS officials, no one was injured in the incident.
“No one was injured during the incident, all of our students are currently safe and we are currently following all safety protocols,” a statement to families said. “I am sending this to keep you updated and to assure you that your student is safe.”
Peoria Public Information Officer Amy Dotson said an altercation between two juvenile students led to one pulling a gun on the other.
After a 14-year-old male student pulled the gun on a 16-year-old student, the two wrestled, and the gun fell to the floor.
According to Dotson, another student then grabbed the gun and gave it to the teacher.
The gun was confirmed to be unloaded and had been stolen.
The 14-year-old was transported to the Peoria Police Department Criminal Investigations Division and arrested for Unlawful Use of a Weapon on School Grounds, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Aggravated Assault, and Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds.
He was then transported to the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center.
