PEORIA, Ill. — Caterpillar Inc. has a new trial video out that highlights a need for service technicians.
The earth-moving manufacturing company is using the video to bring attention to 1,600 openings for service techs at their dealerships nationwide.
Caterpillar’s Griff Reome, a former dealer service tech that went through the “Think Big” program at Illinois Central College, said you don’t have to have a four-year degree to land a great job.
“Whether you get your education formally in a school, or get it through experience, that should carry the same merit. And, people need to understand that those jobs carry the same level of merit too,” Reome said.
Reome told WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show” that Caterpillar’s new video, shot at the company’s Edwards Proving Grounds, near Peoria, features 18 dealer technicians testing their skills through an obstacle course similar to those on “American Ninja” on tv.
The service tech jobs are ideal for new graduates and military veterans fresh out of the service looking for new opportunities, according to Reome.
“We’ve got a ton of different training and certifications that you can go through to further develop yourself as a technician. And, then can can led into so many other successful career paths, including management, sales and service operations,” Reome said.
CAT dealers currently employ 65,000 service techs globally. Caterpillar estimates its dealers will need tens of thousands of additional service technicians over the next decade.
