PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Firefighters/Paramedics Saturday afternoon responded to reports of a natural gas odor at St. Augustine Manor at 1309 NE. Glendale.
Upon arrival, crews checked the apartment complex’s first floor gas levels and discovered very high readings on their gas detector.
Peoria Firefighters/Paramedics subsequently evacuated all residents within the apartment building and discovered the cause to be a gas leak in the cafeteria’s kitchen oven.
Crews then shut off the gas lines and opened windows in the cafeteria to remove the odor.
Ameren eventually arrived on the scene and confirmed the leak was due to a faulty gas line within the oven of the cafeteria’s kitchen stove.
One resident was transported to UnityPoint Methodist for a headache possibly caused by the gas leak, but no other injuries were reported.
