PEORIA, Ill. — The Peoria Township Supervisor’s race from the February 23 primary has been certified, with the challenger just two votes ahead of the incumbent.
Final results were confirmed on Thursday showing LaTrina Leary defeated Frank Abdnour to be the Democratic nominee for supervisor, with Leary getting 3,130 votes and Abdnour receiving 3,128. On election night, Leary led by just one vote.
There’s no Republican running for supervisor, so Leary will run unopposed in the April 6 general election.
Peoria Election Commission Executive Director Thomas Bride told news partner 25 News, local elections like this one can come down to a handful of votes.
“It does happen. Every vote does count especially in these local elections and I think that proves it,” said Bride.
In the Township race, Abdnour can request a partial recount, and after that he could petition the court for a full recount.
Abdnour has not said what he’ll do next.
