PEORIA, Ill. — The Peoria City/County Health Department Thursday discussed the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine rollout for the tri-county during its weekly news briefing.
Peoria City/County Public Health Administrator Monica Hendrickson said the state still had not received a large supply of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, but she expects that to change in April.
Despite its limited supply, some federal partners have been able to distribute the J&J vaccine, said Hendrickson.
“We know there are some federal partners that are getting it, such as Walgreens, and I believe Walgreens is actually going to be doing some targeted vaccination programs around our community,” said Hendrickson. “That’s what we want them to do with Johnson & Johnson.”
In conjunction with Walgreens, the Peoria South Side Mission will host a coronavirus vaccine distribution event beginning Sunday, March 14.
On Sunday, the Mission will have 150 shots available from 1-3 p.m. On Monday, 150 more vaccinations will be available from 3-6 p.m. 100 additional shots will be given out Tuesday between 3-6 p.m.
All appointments were filled as of Thursday afternoon.
According to Hendrickson, 52,000 tri-county residents have been fully vaccinated.
