CHICAGO — Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced on Monday that fans will be allowed in Chicago’s ballparks with up to 20% capacity at the start of the MLB season next month.
Capacity at Guaranteed Rate Field will be limited to just over 8,100 fans on Opening Day, April 8, with at least six feet of social distancing required between parties.
Wrigley Field will be limited to just over 8,270 fans on Opening Day, April 1, with the same distancing in place.
“As a diehard sports fan myself, I’m personally excited to have Chicago take its first, cautious steps toward safely reopening our beloved baseball stadiums to fans this season,” Lightfoot, a Sox season ticket holder, said in a news release.
Ballparks will remain at 20% capacity until further notice and are subject to opening to additional fans as vaccination and recovery efforts continue.
Safety precautions to help mitigate COVID-19 at Chicago’s ballparks will include: Limited contact entry, cashless consessions and retail inside the stadiums and additional restrooms per guest.
