CHICAGO, Ill. – Rep. Edward Guerra Kodatt – handpicked to succeed former Rep. Mike Madigan – resigned Wednesday, just three days after his appointment.
Madigan, the longest-serving lawmaker in Illinois history, suggested his successor should resign Tuesday night.
The 26-year-old received 63% of the weighted vote to win Madigan’s seat in the Illinois House on Sunday.
“After learning of alleged questionable conduct by Mr. Kodatt, it was suggested that he resign as state representative for the 22nd District,” Said Madigan and 13th Ward Alderman Marty Quinn. “We are committed to a zero tolerance policy in the workplace.”
Last week, Madigan announced that he was stepping down from the seat he held for decades.
First elected to the House in 1970, the 78-year-old Chicago Democrat was elected House Speaker in 1983 and served 36 of the next 38 years at the helm of the legislative body.
