SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — After a week of delays in COVID-19 vaccine shipments and low numbers of people throughout Illinois going out to get their shots, both because of inclement weather, the state between Thursday and Friday set a 24-hour record for vaccines administered.
The Illinois Department of Public Health said 83,673 doses were given.
That pushed the state over the 2 million shot mark.
2,219 tests came back positive. 63 people died.
A total of 1,596 people as of Thursday night were hospitalized because of the virus. 366 of them were in intensive care, while 190 were on ventilators.
Laboratories throughout the state collected 85,963 specimens to be tested.
