SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Wintry weather continued between Wednesday and Thursday to stifle shipments to Illinois of the coronavirus vaccine.
The Illinois Department of Public Health reported only 4,300 more doses were delivered during that period to providers throughout the state, including in Chicago. That means only about 60,000 of this week’s allotted 365,000 doses had as of Thursday afternoon been delivered.
Despite the bad weather, 73,091 people ventured out Wednesday to get the shot, raising the rolling seven-day average of administered vaccines to 61,132.
1,966 tests during the reporting period came back positive, while 72 deaths were reported.
A total of 1,655 people as of Wednesday night were in hospitals with the virus or with suspected cases of it. 386 of those patients were in intensive care, and 184 were using ventilators to breathe.
Labs throughout the state collected 67,542 specimens to be tested.
