PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria firefighters responded just before 11 p.m. Thursday to a house fire in the 4000 block of N. University.
Fire Battalion Chief Steve Rada said a resident noticed sparks coming from a ceiling light, and called 911, while trying to put out the fire with an extinguisher.
“When we went inside, we had to pull a substantial amount of the ceilings to get into the attic area. We quickly knocked down the fire which extended from the kitchen to the garage,” Rada said.
The fire was under control within about 25 minutes.
No injuries were reported.
The Red Cross was called in to assist the resident with temporary housing.
