SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — February 12th is the first day Illinoisans can file their state and federal taxes.
The Illinois Department of Revenue is urging residents to file their taxes electronically to get refunds faster.
“As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, we do encourage taxpayers to consider creating a my-tax-illinois account. Those filing electronically can expect a refund in about four to six weeks,” said Department of Revenue Spokesperson Terry Horstman.
Horstman said in 2020, 87% of the state’s residents filed their taxes online.
Illinois taxpayers can file their I-L 10-40 forms for free at mytax.illinois.gov.
