BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Since Illinois’ Region Two has entered tier one COVID-19 mitigation, high school winter sports can start practicing.
“That’s a movement in the right direction. And, then our low-risk sports should be able to start competing once they’ve had some practices,” said Illinois High School Association Executive Director Craig Anderson.
The IHSA’s low risk sports include Badminton, Competitive Cheer and Dance, as well as Boys’ Swimming.
Anderson told WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show”, that because of the sport’s risk level, basketball teams will be able to practice, but not compete.
With a proposed spring Football season not far off, teams will be able to start practicing soon.
“They will be able to (practice) when we get to their season. Right now, their season is to begin February 15 and our board has made no adjustment to that,” Anderson said.
The status of actual Football games, however, is still up in the air, Anderson said.
