SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Friday reported 6,642 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in the state, including 123 additional deaths. IDPH also announced Friday the first confirmed case of the more contagious strain of COVID-19 in Illinois.
Illinois has now surpassed 18,000 deaths due to the virus since the pandemic began.
107,156 specimens were collected by laboratories in the last 24 hours.
As of Thursday night, 3,446 patients were in Illinois hospitals with the virus. Of those, 712 were in the ICU and 386 were on ventilators.
The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity does continue to drop and now is at 7.7% compared to 8% Thursday.
