PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Police have arrested a man they believe was responsible for a Saturday night downtown hit-and-run.
The incident in question occurred just before 11:00 at the intersection of Spalding and Adams.
Police responded to a call regarding a fight among several men in the 300 block of NE Jefferson. Upon their response to the call, they found out the altercation was related to the crash.
When officers went to the crash scene, they found a car occupied by two people that had been wrecked by an SUV that struck the car but had fled the scene.
That SUV was later found in the 500 block of Adams, with no one inside the vehicle.
Investigators gathered information that led to the Thursday morning interview and subsequent arrest of 35-year-old Andrew Engelbrecht.
Engelbrecht was issued a DUI and charged with obstructing police, disobeying a red light, leaving the scene of a crash, failing to notify police of a crash, and failing to give aid or info after a crash.
He was placed into Peoria County Jail and has since posted bond.
The victims of the hit and run sustained minor injuries.
