SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Regions of Illinois successfully containing the coronavirus may be able to ease up on COVID-19 restrictions starting Friday, Jan. 15.
Some areas of the state may be getting good news later this week, and be able to open some things back up, according to Gov. J-B Pritzker.
“If things continue to improve in a region, IDPH will reclassify that region according to Tier 2, Tier 1 and back to Phase 4 as they meet the necessary metrics,” Pritzker said.
Those metrics include test positivity rates, number of hospitalizations and the number of ICU beds available. The entire state of Illinois has been under Tier 3 mitigations since late November.
But, Pritzker reminds Illinoisans that we must all stay the course.
“If we maintain adherence to mask wearing, social distancing and making sure to get vaccinated when it’s your time, we will experience a robust recovery that I know we are all looking forward to,” Pritzker said.
The governor said the data will drive decisions about which tier or phase of the “Restore Illinois” plan a particular region will fall under.
