PEORIA, Ill. — Soon, you’ll be able to fly from the General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport to two new U.S. cities.
Allegiant Airlines announced Tuesday morning that it’s adding flights from PIA to Sarasota, Florida, and Denver, Colorado.
The flights will begin in May, and will operate twice a week.
“We are proud and honored by the confidence that Allegiant has shown in the Peoria market by announcing these two new destinations,” said Gene Olson, Director of Airports for the Metropolitan Airport Authority of Peoria in a statement.
“Central Illinois travelers have always supported service opportunities to Florida, and with the new connection to Colorado, we will have two exciting destinations to add to the portfolio. Sarasota and Denver represent two new opportunities for leisure and business travel that will now be served by Allegiant’s famous low fares,” Olson added.
To celebrate the new flights, Allegiant is offering one-way fares to Sarasota and Denver as low as $49.
The first flight to Sarasota, Florida will be on May 27, with fares starting at $59, while the first flight to Denver will be on May 28 with fares as low as $39.
The Sarasota flight will run Thursday and Sunday. The Denver flight will be flying Friday and Monday.
“I think it’s an indication of Allegiance’s level of confidence in the Peoria market,” said Olson.
Olson added that airport traffic is just below half of what it was at this time in 2020 due to COVID-19.
PIA is hopeful that further in the year traffic will pick back up as business flights continue as people across the country receive COVID-19 vaccinations.
In a statement, Allegiant noted that available seats and dates are limited, and the lowest fares are not available on all flights. Flights must be purchased on January 13, with travel completed by August 15 to Sarasota, Florida, and August 16 for Denver.
Fare rules, routes, and schedules are also subject to change without notice, with optional baggage charges and additional restrictions that could apply.
