PEORIA, Ill. — The Peoria City/County Health Department Monday announced 15 area deaths took place over the weekend due to COVID-19.
Tazewell County reported the majority of the new deaths with 12. Peoria County was responsible for the other three.
Overall, five of the 15 deaths reported were residents of long-term care facilities.
566 new cases of the virus came up over the weekend throughout the tri-county area. Peoria County added 274 new cases, Tazewell County added 219 and Woodford County added 73.
In addition, 10 more patients were in area hospitals with the virus or suspected cases of it compared to Friday. 11 more ICU beds are being used by COVID patients, while one fewer non-ICU bed is being used in comparison to Friday.
Region 2, the region that covers the tri-county area, does continue to meet all four requirements set forth by the Illinois Department of Public Health to move to Tier 2 mitigations.
