PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria fire crews were called at 7:00 New Year’s Eve to the N. University Burger King on reports of a roof fire.
Thick, black smoke was found emanating from the roof, and moderate smoke was coming from the building.
The fire’s origin was found in the hood exhaust system, which had to be dismantled significantly for accessibility purposes.
Dry chemicals and water were used to extinguish the fire.
The manager working at the time said they and another employee were cooking hamburgers when the fire started.
Both were able to get out unharmed.
The bulk of the damage was fire to the hood exhaust system and smoke damage to the building, approximated at about $15,000 worth of damage in total.
