EAST PEORIA, Ill. — It’s unclear what caused an early morning garage fire that spread to an East Peoria home Wednesday morning.
East Peoria Fire Chief John Knapp said the call came in just before 4 a.m. in the 200 block of Glen Oak.
“We ended up having an on-duty police officer who happened to be on patrol that discovered the fire. He was able to assist the occupants of the home, made them aware of the fire and assist them out of the house,” Knapp said.
One of the occupants was transported to a hospital for evaluation. But, it appears that she’s doing fine, according to Knapp.
Knapp adds, “it was difficult to put out the fire, because flames were getting into places of the home that were hard to reach.”
It appears the garage and home are a total loss.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
