CHILLICOTHE, Ill. — Peoria County Sheriff’s deputies were called just before 3:45 a.m. Tuesday to Crossroads Church in Rome.
Sheriff Brian Asbell said a vehicle struck the church on N. Broadway and then took off.
“It did end up leaving a significant amount of damage to the church on the west wall. There’s about a seven by six foot hole,” Asbell said.
The vehicle involved in the crash was located a short distance away, unoccupied, Asbell said.
Deputies found the suspect vehicle with the passenger door open and a significant amount of damage to the inside panel.
Asbell said the Sheriff’s Office is looking for the individual or individuals that may have been involved, and consider this a pending investigation.
