PEORIA, Ill. — The Peoria City/County Health Department Tuesday announced 14 deaths that occurred in the tri-county area of Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford due to COVID-19 since Monday.
Woodford County reported seven deaths, Peoria County reported six and Tazewell County reported one.
Only one of the residents from Peoria County resided at long-term care, while three of the seven from Woodford resided in long-term care.
All of the long-term care residents that died in Woodford County resided at Snyder Village.
In Peoria County, the long-term care resident was a male in his 50s who resided at Gateway at River City.
There have now been 362 deaths due to COVID-19 in the area since the pandemic began.
Overall, 289 new cases came up in the tri-county area between Monday and Tuesday: 103 in Tazewell County, 94 in Peoria County and 92 in Woodford County.
Region 2, the region that encompasses Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford counties, is meeting all but one requirement that has to be met to be moved out of Tier 3 mitigations by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).
In addition to being under the 12% rolling seven-day positivity rate for 10 straight days, the region has had 11 consecutive days over 20% capacity of med/surg beds.
The other criteria the region meets is having seven of 10 days of decreasing hospitalizations, of which Region 2 has had eight consecutive days of decreases.
The only criteria that the region does not meet is related to ICU bed capacity. To be considered for moving out of Tier 3 mitigations, a region must have 20% or more ICU bed capacity for three consecutive days. As of Tuesday, the region is at 19.3% ICU capacity.
15 fewer people were in area hospitals with the virus or suspected cases of it Tuesday compared to Monday. However, three more ICU beds were in use for COVID-19 patients.
