PEORIA,Ill. — The Greater Peoria Mass Transit District will resume collecting bus fares beginning Monday, January 4.
“That includes all of our transportation services, CityLink fixed-routes, CityLift para-transit service and CountyLink rural public transportation service,” said CityLink Director of Marketing and Public Relations Emily Watson.
The Transit Center lobby will also reopen to the public on January 4.
Watson said suspension of fares and the closure of the Transit Center lobby back in March were in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The decision to resume collecting fares is a result of the new operator/driver barriers that have been installed on the CityLink fixed route buses over the past several weeks.
“And, that is going to eliminate the need for any type of physical contact between the passengers and the driver, and hopefully add another layer of protection for the driver and the passengers,” Watson said.
The Customer Service window will reopen at the Transit Center and the administrative office (2105 NE Jefferson Ave.) beginning on January 4, however, utility payments and Burlington Trailways ticket sales at the Transit Center are still suspended until further notice.
All Benefit Access/Half-fare/Paratransit Rider IDs that expired in 2020 will be honored until May 1, 2021.
Social distancing and face coverings are still required to ride CityLink buses and while inside the Transit Center lobby.
