PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Firefighters were called to the 700 block of NE Jefferson just after 3:00 Monday afternoon on reports of a man stuck on a rooftop.
According to Battalion Chief Steve Rada, the man on the rooftop was walking dangerously close to the edge having a medical issue when they arrived.
“He was not acting as a normal person would,” said Rada. “He was confused and somewhat apprehensive about what was going on.”
Due to the potential danger of the situation, police officers and firefighters climbed to the roof when the individual began walking the edge and was not acting appropriately.
At first, the man was not compliant and wouldn’t get off the roof or let anyone approach him.
After nearly 40 minutes, the man complied with coming off the roof voluntarily, with assistance of a fire truck bucket, and was transported to a local hospital.
The man, according to Rada, was not combative towards emergency personnel.
