PEORIA, Ill. — For the second time in the past week, a person in their 20s from Peoria County has died due to COVID-19.
The Peoria City/County Health Department Monday reported the female in her 20s, with comorbidities, died over the weekend along with 11 other local deaths.
Last Thursday, a male in his 20s, with comorbidities, also died from the virus.
Over the weekend, Peoria experienced five deaths.
A man in his 60s, who lived at University Rehab, was the only one who was a resident of long-term care.
The others, a male in his 60s; a female in her 80s; a female in her 20s; and a male in his 70s, all did not live in long-term care but did have comorbidities.
The other seven tri-county deaths occurred in Tazewell County.
Two deaths, a male and female in their 80s, resided at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton.
Three deaths, a male and two females in their 90s, resided at Washington Senior Living.
Another death, a female in her 70s, resided at Pekin Manor.
All three of those locations in Tazewell County are experiencing an outbreak, according to the Peoria City/County Health Department.
The other death in Tazewell County was a male in his 60s who did not reside in long-term care.
Overall, there have now been 316 deaths in Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford counties since the pandemic began.
There were 755 new cases of COVID-19 announced Monday as well.
387 new cases were in Peoria County, 257 were in Tazewell and 111 were in Woodford.
The recovered rate dropped more than 1% over the weekend and is now at 67.2%.
The home isolating rate went up more than 1% and is now at 1.42%.
The hospitalized rate did drop slightly and is now at .45%.
192 area hospital beds were in use Monday for patients with COVID-19, an increase of 12 from Friday.
