PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Metro experienced five deaths between Wednesday and Thursday related to the coronavirus, including the area’s youngest COVID-related death to date.
The Peoria City/County Health Department said a Peoria County man in his 20s succumbed to complications from the virus. The agency did not say whether he had underlying conditions or whether he lived in long-term care.
A Peoria County man in his 60s also died and, similarly, his living situation and health conditions were not made available.
In Tazewell County, two residents of Hallmark Healthcare in Pekin passed away. One was in her 90s while the other was in her 100s.
The virus also claimed the life of a Tazewell man in his 100s.
Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford Counties recorded 357 new cases. 178 of them were in Peoria, 135 were in Tazewell, and the other 44 were residents of Woodford.
Area hospitals reported 183 beds were being occupied as of Thursday afternoon by patients with the virus or with suspected cases of the virus.
48 of those cases were in intensive care beds as Region Two’s ICU bed capacity fell over a percentage point, to 14.6%, marking the ninth straight day of an ICU bed capacity in the region of below 20%.
Region Two’s rolling seven-day positivity rate dropped minimally, to 13.2%.
The area’s recovery rate went up to 68%.
