SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Wednesday announced 140 new deaths due to COVID-19.
In addition, IDPH reported 8,922 new confirmed and probable cases of the virus in Illinois. This does break the recent streak of over 10,000 new cases daily in the state.
With those numbers, Illinois has now reported over 600,000 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began to go along with over 11,000 deaths.
Within the past 24 hours, laboratories reported 103,569 specimens collected.
New records continue to be set as far as how many people are in hospitals with the virus across the state. As of Tuesday night, 5,953 people were in hospital beds across the state.
Of those, 1,146 were in the ICU and 547 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity is 14.2%, which is down .3% from Tuesday.
