PEORIA, Ill. — A day after the Peoria City/County Health Department reported no deaths related to COVID-19 in Peoria, Tazewell, or Woodford County, the agency on Wednesday reported six such occurrences.
In Peoria County, two females in their 80s who did not live in long-term care and a woman in her 40s who was reported to have had comorbidities all passed away.
A Tazewell County man in his 70s who did not live in long-term care died from virus complications, as did another man in his 70s who lived at Generations at Riverview. A male resident in his 90s of Amy’s Country Manor in Pekin also passed.
The tri-county had an overall newly active case count of 413.
197 of the new cases were in Peoria County, 183 were in Tazewell, and Woodford reported 33.
Perhaps the most concerning statistic reported Wednesday was that of local hospitalizations. 175 people were in area hospital beds with the virus or suspected cases of it, making Wednesday’s count the highest in the area since the start of the pandemic.
44 of the patients were in intensive care beds.
On a more encouraging note, Wednesday saw a slight tick downward in region two’s rolling seven-day positivity rate, falling to 16.9%. It had been at 17% the two previous days.
The area recovery rate rose to just above 70%.
