PEORIA, Ill. — A family was displaced from their home after a Friday afternoon fire just before 4:00 p.m.
Peoria firefighters responded at 3:45 p.m. to 1006 S. Shelley St. where they found smoke and flames coming from the second-floor window.
Fire crews advanced an attack line to the second floor and extinguished the fire that started in the upstairs bedroom.
While crews attacked the fire, power and gas supply was shut off to the home to prevent an explosion or electrical hazard.
Two of the six residents inside the home were taken to the hospital, one with a burn on the hand and the other with chest pain.
“I believe one of the gentlemen went back in to try to put it out and ended up suffering a burn to his hand,” said Battalion Chief Steve Rada.
Three dogs were also rescued from the home.
“We had animal control come respond to the scene,” said Rada. “The residence relayed that the dogs were all fine and were with them.”
No injuries were reported to firefighters on the scene.
Rada said the house is currently uninhabitable due to smoke and water damage within the home. The Red Cross was notified to assist the family in need.
