SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker didn’t mince words Thursday during his daily COVID-19 news conference.
Speaking about the state’s numbers which, this week, have seen record numbers, Pritzker talked about what might happen next.
“It is absolutely possible, and certainly likely if the numbers keep going in the wrong direction, we may have to take more stringent action,” he said.
“The numbers don’t lie. If things don’t take a turn in the coming days, we will quickly reach the point when some form of a mandatory stay-at-home order is all that will be left.
“With every fiber of my being, I do not want us to get there, but right now, that seems like where we are heading.”
Since Oct. 1, cases have increased by 459%.
The state’s original stay-at-home order was loosened May 29, with the adoption of Phase Three of Restore Illinois.
