BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — The Illinois High School Association has ruled a Limestone High School cross country runner must serve the entirety of his two-meet suspension.
IHSA ruled last Wednesday senior Bryce Baker violated bylaw 3.101 when he participated in ShaZam Racing’s “Crush Covid 3 Mile” Labor Day event.
That bylaw “prohibits a student from participating on a non-school team or in non-school competition in the sport or any skill of a sport at the time the student is a member of a school team in that same sport.”
Limestone appealed the ruling on the grounds the Labor Day event was a time trial, and not a competition. IHSA’s Board of Directors took up the appeal at Monday’s meeting, and decided to sustain the suspension.
As last Friday’s conference race counted as the first meet towards Baker’s suspension, this Saturday’s regional meet will count as the second and final meet of his ineligibility.
If Limestone were to qualify for sectionals, Baker would be eligible to compete.
