PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. — A bone, discovered on Saturday near Banner Marsh by a couple fishing on the riverbanks, is confirmed to be human.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood told WMBD News, the bone, which appears to be from a human spinal column, was found near a site where other human remains were discovered last month.
“Whether it’s related to the other set of remains that were found is really unknown at this time. That bone that we found will be sent to an anthropologist in Champaign for them to evaluate,” Harwood said.
It will take about two weeks to determine the age, sex and race of the individual the bone belongs to, according to Harwood.
Part of a human skull was found in the area near Glasford several weeks ago.
Harwood says once a report on the remains comes back, he’ll be able to cross-reference any local missing persons.
