PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. — Illinois State Police said a man suffered life-threatening injuries when two semi-trailer trucks collided around 5 p.m. Thursday on Interstate 74 near Kickapoo.
The westbound semi, driven by a 36-year-old Mississippi man, crossed the median into the eastbound lanes of I-74, hitting another semi, driven by a 58-year-old Indiana man, according to the ISP.
36-year-old Anthony Abernathy was taken by Life Flight from the scene. As of Friday morning, his condition was unknown.
Illinois State Police said the 58-year-old driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Interstate 74 was shut down for nearly 10 hours for investigation and clean up. It was reopened at 3:15 a.m. Friday.
