PEORIA, Ill. — The decision by the Peoria City Council to decommission two fire engines, Station 4 on the southside and Station 20 on the northside, has been a hotly-contested one since the decision was made on Sept. 1.
However, according to a statement by the City of Peoria Friday, they have been in discussions with IAFF Local 50 in possibly only decommissioning one fire engine, instead of two.
In an effort to address the impact of that decommissioning and to settle an unfair labor practice filed by the Union, Local 50 presented the City with a proposal to restore machines back into service.
“Local 50 voted to settle the unfair labor practice if the City would restore one machine into service, at least through March 31, 2021,” the statement read.
The resolution of the matter will be presented to the City Council at a later date.
The two fire engines were scheduled to be decommissioned on Oct. 1, 2020.
