WASHINGTON, D.C. — Will we see another relief package ahead of the November election?
Illinois’ 18th District Rep. Darin LaHood told WMBD’s Greg and Dan Show, Congress is working on another stimulus, but, they haven’t done enough to get federal money to cities and municipalities for COVID-related losses.
In bills crafted this spring, $3.6 trillion in aid was given to the state of Illinois, but, the money hasn’t filtered down.
LaHood said Republicans generally want about $250 billion to go out in the next aid package.
“Again, that’s not going to make cities whole, but it’s going to help them. Democrats want more than that, about $500 to $750 billion,” LaHood said.
President Trump Wednesday asked to bump aid up to $1.5 trillion, despite the U.S. being $26 trillion in debt.
“It’s trying to figure out the need and the want and whether $1.5 trillion that you’re adding to the debt, to your kids, my grandkids, is that worth doing?” LaHood said.
President Trump tweeted Wednesday morning urging fellow Republicans to support a larger COVID relief bill that would include his priority of $1,200 stimulus checks for most Americans.
