MACOMB, Ill. — Western Illinois University canceled classes Wednesday after a shooting on the Macomb campus Tuesday night.
University officials said all online and in-person classes at both the Macomb and Moline campuses, as well as extension classes would not be held Wednesday.
Police have identified the suspect as 18-year-old freshman Kavion Poplous. A warrant was issued for his arrest Tuesday night.
Poplous is considered armed and dangerous.
The university says the victim is Poplous’ roommate. He was said to be in surgery Wednesday morning, but his condition was unknown.
Thompson Hall’s fire alarm was activated around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday and students were evacuated.
