PEORIA, Ill. — In one of the deadliest COVID-19 weekends to date on a local level, the Peoria City/County Health Department has reported five deaths of area residents occurred between Friday and Monday.
Two Peoria County inhabitants fell victim to the virus: a male in his 90s who resided at Apostolic Christian Skylines and a female in her 60s who was not a long-term care facility resident.
Tazewell County recorded three deaths: a woman in her 70s who lived at Aperion Morton Villa, as well as a male in his 60s and a female in her 30s who were not in long-term care. The female in her 30s marked the youngest tri-county resident to date to pass away from coronavirus.
The area’s COVID death toll increased to 62.
Overall, the agency reported 230 new cases.
Peoria County accounted for 152 of those cases, Tazewell reported 60, while Woodford had the remaining 18.
Area hospitalizations increased from 52 on Friday to 61 on Monday. 18 of Monday’s hospitalizations were in intensive care.
The area’s recovery rate did see an increase in that time frame, from just below 75% to above 76%.
