PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Public Library is offering a clean slate to past patrons.
The Library’s Roberta Koescielski told WMBD’s Greg and Dan Show, as long as you bring past-due books and materials back, fines are now forgiven.
“From now on, your old fines have gone away and you won’t acquire new ones,” Koescielski said.
Fees for damaged, unreturned or lost library items will still apply.
Koescielski said people are often afraid to come back if they owe the library money or have misplaced library items.
“We want to even the playing field, remove barriers and invite everyone to come back and get or renew a library card,” Koescielski said.
The fine-free policy was recently unanimously approved by the Peoria Public Library Board of Trustees.
