MORTON, Ill. — Fewer students are positive with COVID-19 this week compared to last week, but the number of students in quarantine is up.
Last week, there were eight students that had tested positive for COVID-19, and this week that number is four.
Of the four, three are high schoolers and one an eighth-grade remote learner. A total of 251 students are now choosing remote learning, which is up from 249 a week ago.
The number of students quarantining rose from 95 to 133 week-to-week. 59 of those students are expected to return to class on Tuesday after Labor Day. Morton School District Superintendent Jeffrey Hill says the school district has expected the number quarantining to fluctuate on a daily basis.
Among staff, three employees are out after a positive test, which is up from two a week ago. Fewer staff are quarantined, however, with five quarantined compared to ten a week ago.
The district’s positivity rate is currently at .14%, and the quarantine rate is currently at 4.7% among the approximate 2,830 students in attendance.
