SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — September is National Preparedness Month and the Illinois Emergency Management Agency is encouraging families to be ready for all kinds of emergencies.
IEMA Spokesperson Rebecca Clark said preparedness is more than just putting aside a few bottles of water and a flashlight…it’s also about planning.
“So, in Illinois, we tend to see floods, tornadoes, earthquakes are in the relm of possibility too. So, if you start with each hazard, you look at how would you best prepare your family to be successful in those situations,” Clark said.
It’s recommended families have a NOAA Weather Radio, emergency kit and a designated meeting spot.
IEMA also suggests setting up a quarantine space for anyone in the family that gets infected with COVID-19 as part of emergency plans.
IEMA offers disaster preparedness information on the Ready Illinois website, a one-stop resource for detailed information about what to do before, during and after disasters.
