SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Drivers 75 and older have been given another year to renew their Illinois driver’s license.
Secretary of State Spokesperson Dave Druker said the goal is to shorten lines at driver services facilities and keep older Illinois residents safe from the coronavirus.
“This group, at 75, is the group that is required to do a test when they come in. It’s the first age group that’s required to do a test at age 75,” Druker said.
Seniors that qualify will get a letter in the mail, according to Druker.
“Anybody who turns 75 in the year of 2020, your driver’s license expiration date has moved one year to your birthdate in 2021,” Druker said.
The license expiration for all other Illinois drivers has been pushed back to November 1.
