PEORIA, Ill. — When Bradley University begins classes on Wednesday, Aug. 24, students will be following social distancing and mask protocols in an effort to keep the virus out of classrooms.
Students appear confident in protocols that have been put in place by Bradley, but some voiced their concerns as it relates to out of classroom activities.
Sophomore Charlie Avendano said he has confidence in the protocols, but safety is ultimately in the hands of the students.
“I think those protocols will work in the classroom setting,” said Avendano. “I think that most of the issues will probably come from outside with social gatherings and events.”
“I think Bradley as a school is doing what they can to control it within their parameters.”
Sophomore Jeremy Oliphant agreed with Avendano.
“I think everybody knows that it’s out of the university’s hands on whether or not the students are going to be safe,” said Oliphant. “And I’ll do the best I can.”
Both students and others said they know not all students will follow protocols, which could lead to positive cases within the Bradley community.
Bradley President Stephen Standifird said in an e-mail Thursday night to students that costs will not be reduced due to more virtual classes.
Bradley’s current plan is to have in-person classes through Thanksgiving. After Thanksgiving, students would complete online finals before winter break.
