SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The state of Illinois is back over the 2,000 new cases mark.
The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Wednesday announced 2,295 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 25 additional deaths.
The last time the state announced over 2,000 cases in a 24-hour reporting period was Aug. 14.
Wednesday’s totals bring the total of confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths in the state to 211,889 and 7,806 respectively.
Considerably more tests were completed in the most recent reporting period than the one prior. Laboratories reported 50,299 specimens compared to 34,175 on the day before.
However, the seven-day positivity rate continues to rise and now sits at 4.4%.
As of Tuesday night, 1,519 people in Illinois were in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 334 were in the ICU and 144 were on ventilators.
